Sea tours in Thailand — frequently asked questions
What's the difference between a yacht charter and a tour in Thailand?
A tour is a fixed-itinerary, fixed-price experience joined by other guests on a per-seat basis (฿1,500–4,500 per person). A yacht charter is a private booking of the whole boat, customizable itinerary, just you and your group (฿25,000–500,000+ per day total). Tours work for solo travelers, couples and budget-conscious groups; charters work for families, celebrations and anyone who values privacy.
What's typically included in a Thailand sea tour?
Hotel pickup and drop-off (within set zones), all transfers, lunch (often Thai buffet), drinking water, snorkeling gear, life jackets, English-speaking guide, marine park fees, and insurance. Some premium tours include kayaking, paddleboarding, or speedboat transfers between islands.
Are tours suitable for children and seniors?
Yes, most tours welcome families. Each tour page lists minimum age, accessibility notes, and whether the boat has shaded seating, WC, and a flat boarding ramp. Speedboat tours are not recommended for pregnant women, infants under 2, or guests with back problems. Sailing catamarans are the most comfortable option for elderly travelers.
How early should I book a tour in Thailand?
In high season (Nov–Apr) book at least 3–7 days in advance — top tours (Phi Phi premium, Similan, James Bond Bay) sell out daily. In green season (May–Oct) you can usually book 1–2 days ahead. For Christmas/New Year and Chinese New Year, book 2–4 weeks ahead.
What if the weather is bad on the day of my tour?
Tour operators monitor sea conditions and the marine office may close ports if conditions are unsafe. In that case, you receive a full refund or free reschedule. If the tour runs but you choose not to go, the standard cancellation policy applies — so always trust the operator's call.
Can I join a tour as a solo traveller, or is there a minimum group size?
Yes, all group tours on yacht.day accept solo travellers — you simply book one seat. There is no single supplement and no minimum group requirement on your end: the operator runs the tour as soon as it has its own minimum (usually 4–6 confirmed guests). If a tour is cancelled because the operator could not gather enough guests, you receive a full refund or can reschedule to another date.
